Adults are deteriorated kids. As adults we aim too high but we forget to learn simple lessons of life while we climb ladder of Success. Spending time with kids taught me some valuable lessons. Sharing them with you so you might give a thought on it:
- Kids are Curious
Mamoo what is this? Mamoo how does this work? Mamoo what are you doing? These and tons of other questions are part of my niece’s never-ending-ask-list when she sees me.
As kids we all are curious about the world around us. We see everything from a new perspective. We find beauty in smallest of creation. We don’t judge things, we just absorb them. But somewhere between A, B, C to find the value of x,y,z we lose this curiosity when we grow up.
It’s important that as adults we maintain this curiosity about life and the world around us. It’s in curiosity that we learn, we grow and we move on in life. To be successful in life and in business we must be curious on ‘how things work?’
- Kids are Genius when it comes to making Friends
I was busy with my phone when I entered the elevator with my niece. I didn’t give much attention on what’s going on around me but when I was leaving the elevator I heard my niece “Hey Mamoo, meet my new friend, she lives near our home and…..” Was really impressed by achievement of my niece.
How many of us talk to strangers while we walk on streets travel or jump into in an elevator. I guess now days we all are busy with our cell phones so much that we miss the opportunity to embrace power of human interaction. Yes, we do make friends with whom we are willing to do business with, but other than that we don’t talk to strangers at all.
It’s not that difficult to make friends is it? But yes, it’s important to know people, to have an interaction when we are not willing to. Who knows that like in movies, the person next to you in an elevator is your next boss J . So, next time when you travel in a bus or get into an elevator, slide your phone into your pocket and try to make connect with the person next to you. Trust me, you’ll love the experience!!
- Kids always have a Backup plan
Mamoo bring that toffee ‘A’ or bring toffee ‘B’ (brand name omitted). My niece somehow knows that one should always have a backup.
In business, and in life, we plan but most of us don’t consider plan B which is of equal importance. Things don’t always work out as we’ve planned but we must be prepared if they don’t. It’s necessary to keep an eye on your goal but it’s also advised to keep your approach flexible.
- Kids are extremely Consistent
My niece loves watching poems on my laptop. Whatever she is doing, she always takes out time to watch poems once in a day. And despite the fact that I am busy or not she just wants me to play the poem. That’s it, no excuses.
Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time. One bulb at a time. There was no other way to do it. No shortcuts–simply loving the slow process of planting. Loving the work as it unfolded. Loving an achievement that grew slowly and bloomed for only three weeks each year.
So from now onwards be consistent on something you love. Do it, until you’ve mastered it, do it until you are totally satisfied with the result.
- Kids Know how to be in the present
Life is short and we have so many things to do. With our brains wandering here and there, kids on the other hand know how to be in the moment. They enjoy the moment and ignore what will happen in the future. As we grow we spend too much time on planning for the future. But on the darker side we forget to enjoy the beauty in front of us. The moment of now, the precious time will not come back but we can learn savor the moment so after a few years we don’t regret the time wasted. We are blessed with 24 hours every day, it’s a gift from Allah Subhan o tala for us, to make this world a better place.
Here goes my list of things which learned from my 12 year niece. What did you learn from kids around you? Do share in comments section.
